22 Oct Still Trying To Fathom That This Is Our New Normal
Hit the road officially on Sunday October 15th. Imagine, trying to imagine, what you feel you need to live out of your home on wheels for an extended period of time. It’s a task for sure. Between Dave and I, we must have been in and out of the camper, let’s exaggerate and say 1000 times. Well, it felt that way anyhow. Putting stuff in..pulling stuff out. It’s a balance of what “things” do I feel I “want” versus what I really “need”. In a RV, you are limited by space and weight. Man…space fills up fast and too many pair of shoes (Lissa) end up weighing a lot more than you might think.
Finally, there was no more second guessing and off we went. A quick drive through Maryland and then the Chesapeake Bay Bridge loomed before us. 23 miles long, beautiful, cars and trucks coming at you in sections where the tunnels converge, and according to Dave, much narrower than “they” tell you. Mastered!

We had decided to stop at a local BJ’s Wholesale and stock up on some items. Had my first “Really Dave?” moment. So taking it back a step, until Dave began his sabbatical (retirement sounds “old”) food shopping wasn’t a task he did often. We decided to hit the self checkout lane. Unfamiliar with the way some checkout systems work, as I scanned, Dave kept picking up the items off the end of the belt to put in the cart, which would confuse the automated cashier, sending the items in reverse back to me. “Dave”, I said, “stop taking everything off. The system needs you to leave it all on till the end”..Just imagine a 6’2” guy standing there saying “But Why” with that look on his face. Picture a small child here and insert Dave’s face. 🙂 Priceless.
Arrived at our campsite in Chesapeake VA. We have found that just getting used to this large rig and the concentration it requires to be on the road…we are tired early. A good tired! So a nice dinner and then off to bed.
Day two begins. Not sure how much of me I have shared with some of you. I am an extrovert that loves to hug. Big time. I have the most amazing people in my world and boy I love being around them. This change in our lives has stretched me far. No people I know, no places I’m used to. Dave probably is getting a bit tired of me hugging him. Another thing about me. I am a person of faith. Many years ago this Jewish girl embraced Jesus into her heart. Knowing that we would be leaving all my comfort zones of people and places and routines, I am excited to spend time learning more, trusting more, and relying more on God to be the foundation that I can rest in during this season in our lives.
Day two is a rainy and windy one. My friend Deb from Park Ridge High School lives here in Beaufort NC. She has welcomed us in such a big beautiful way. Arranging a site for us at a local marina and leaving for us an amazing basket of local goodies. Wow! Spoiled

Historic bike ride thru Beaufort NC
We have fallen in love with Beaufort! The history, the charm. From exploring Fort Macon, to peddling around Beaufort’s historic center with Hungry Town Tours, a brewery, meeting Debbie’s horse “Ready”, ferry ride to Cape Lookout lighthouse, a wonderful “hidden’ locals bar to end the time we shared with Debbie. My heart is overflowing with gratitude.

And how happy Dave was to get two stamps for his National Park Passport! The only thing that would have made him happier, would have been if I surprised him with with the Junior Ranger hat he was eyeing.
Reality is that she set the bar super high, and anyone we may see in the near future has an awful lot to measure up to :). Just kidding, a nice dinner with you, whoever you are, will be just wonderful too.
For Us, It’s Not Abad Day 🙂
