So where are we NOW?

A large part of what Hedy and I are doing involves navigation. Many, many years ago, in days of yore, this skill of figuring out what button to push on Garmin or Google maps, used to be called Map Reading. Children, this is an ancient skill handed down from father to son and mother to daughter and father to daughter….well you get the idea. Maps were an important part of transportation. When one went on a journey, one had a map under one’s arm and hopefully didn’t refer to himself as one. Map reading was an important skill and helped in getting from point A to point B with as few stops to ask for directions as necessary. Yes, a very important part of travel and map reading is to argue with your significant other as to when to pull over and ask for directions. I’ll bet Naamah even told Noah to pull the ark over.

The second important part of map reading was folding a map back in the same Fibonacci sequence, as it was folded in the factory. You had better not fold the map on the wrong x-y axis or your dad would rip you a new one. And forget it if you got a rip in a crease, especially if it was a major city like Chicago or Dubuque, there would be hell to pay. We held on to maps forever in my family. I just recently disposed of Tri-State county maps that I inherited from my brother. I had a vast selection of county maps from Westchester to Cumberland and Bucks to Union. It was hard to let them go. So many lost memories of getting lost.

Today we have navigation devices. They can pin point your present location to within a gnats tuchus, as long as you have a signal. You see there lies the rub, these devices are absolutely fantastic….unless…”1x what the hell is 1x, I had three bars a minute ago!”. Never had that trouble with a map.

Hedy and I now drive with my cell, her cell, the trucks GPS and a Garmin for RV vehicles all set to the same location and all giving us different routes. Please don’t tell Technology, but I have an old fashioned Rand McNally behind the back seat just for old time sake. What a glorious time to be alive. Hey Noah pull over!

For Us It’s Not Abad Day 🙂
